About This Role
This is a specialized research support role at a historic biomedical institute. You will be expected to apply computational biology and molecular analysis to infectious disease research, likely contributing to ongoing studies on leprosy, tuberculosis, or other public health priorities. It suits a scientist who is comfortable at the intersection of dry-lab data analysis and wet-lab biological interpretation, and who values contributing to high-impact health research in Ethiopia.
What the Requirements Say About This Role
The call for a bioinformatician with a biomedical background suggests the institute is looking for someone who can not only run analysis pipelines, but also understand the biological questions behind the data. The seniority level (5-8 years) implies they want a self-sufficient researcher who can design experiments, troubleshoot independently, and mentor junior staff without needing close supervision.
How to Approach This Application
Your application should highlight specific experience with genomic or transcriptomic data analysis in a biomedical context—mention the tools and databases you have used (e.g., BLAST, Galaxy, R/Bioconductor, or relevant pipelines). Emphasize any previous work on Ethiopian pathogens or collaborations with research institutes, as local context and disease familiarity will be highly valued. Tailor your cover letter to show how your computational skills have directly supported biological discovery or clinical research outcomes.
Who This Role Suits
This role is best suited for an experienced bioinformatician with a solid grounding in molecular biology who is ready to lead data-driven research in a respected national institute. Competition is likely moderate, as the position requires a rare combination of skills and seniority.
