           Internship Opportunity – Communication Intern(Graphic Designer)

PURPOSE

The skilled and creative COM Intern (Graphic Designer) will join the ICRC Communication Team in Addis Ababa. S/he will play a key role in designing and adapting communication materials across print and digital platforms, ensuring alignment with the ICRC’s corporate visual identity. 

As a Graphic Designer, s/he will collaborate with internal teams to enhance the quality, coherence, and impact of communication and other corporate identity materials. S/he will provide technical support to colleagues in Addis Ababa, as well as to communication officers in Bahir Dar, Mekelle and Nekemte.

RELATIONSHIPS 

  • Reports directly to the Communication Coordinator (ComCo).
  • Works closely with members of the Communication team. 
  • Interacts/cooperates with different departments within the delegation.
  • Under the supervision of ComCo (or Deputy ComCo in his absence), interacts with selected external stakeholders, dealing with relevant communication and design issues.

  • May be asked to perform tasks not covered in this job description and to provide support to other departments when necessary

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Under the supervision of the Communication Coordinator, s/he carries out the following activities:

  • Design or re-design and layout publications, newsletters, campaign and promotional materials for communication work in Addis Ababa and in the field, in line with the ICRC’s corporate visual identity and industry graphic standards.
  • Design creative visual contents, using Canva and other corporate templates, as required, for publication on digital platforms.
  • Support audio-visual production as per specific projects and guidelines.
  • Create ad-hoc design assets for presentations and internal communication materials, based on the corporate visual identity.
  • Liaise with internal clients to identify design needs (based on priorities and capacities within the delegation), advise on appropriate formats, prepare clear briefs and support the production steps. 
  • Work closely with the digital officer / audiovisual producer to anticipate design needs at the planning stage and integrate design input early in the production process. 
  • Support other departments and the delegation management to ensure a coherent design on posters, banners, stickers, signage, and other branding items, in line with the ICRC’s visual identity.
  • Coordinate priorities and timelines for requests/products with her/his hierarchy, ensuring timely delivery of assets.   
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university in multimedia/graphic design, visual communication, or a related field. A professional diploma in digital/print graphic design/visual communication is also acceptable.
  • Advanced mastery of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Working knowledge of After Effects and familiarity with video workflows (Final Cut or Premiere Pro) are assets.
  • Proven experience designing print and digital formats, incl. for social media and web.
  • Capacity and experience designing audiovisual formats is an asset.
  • Proven experience in applying a corporate visual identity across the board.
  • Capacity to work in tight schedules and meet deadlines.
  • Fluent command of Amharic and English.
  • Fluency in local languages; Afan Oromo, Tigrinya, Somali, Afar and proficiency in French or other languages are considered strong assets.
