About This Role
This role is about grounding sustainability in a high-stakes industrial environment—operating within one of Ethiopia’s major gold mining projects. It suits an environmental professional who thrives in remote fieldwork and can translate regulatory frameworks into daily operational discipline. The position demands someone comfortable with site-level monitoring and regulatory reporting, rather than policy design.
What the Requirements Say About This Role
The employer is looking for a practitioner who understands mining compliance as a hands-on function, not just a desk role. The implied profile is someone with proven ability to conduct inspections, manage waste, and coordinate with authorities in a resource extraction context. Experience with ESIA implementation and environmental management plans is likely weighted more heavily than general environmental knowledge.
How to Approach This Application
Emphasize any direct experience with environmental auditing or monitoring on industrial sites, especially mining or large construction projects. Highlight your familiarity with Ethiopian environmental proclamations and your ability to prepare structured compliance reports. Since the location is remote, express willingness to work in a project-site setting and your approach to coordinating with local communities and regulators.
Who This Role Suits
This role is best suited for mid-career environmental officers with at least three years of hands-on site experience, ideally in extractive industries. Competition may be moderate, given the specialized location and sector requirements.
