About This Role

This is a diplomatic and advocacy position embedded in a poverty-alleviation nonprofit, where your primary job is to manage relationships with Ethiopian government bodies at federal, regional, and local levels to ensure Village Enterprise's programs operate smoothly. The role carries a strong field dimension — frequent travel to Melkadida in the Somali Region means you'll be working in a refugee-hosting context where government coordination is complex and sensitive. It suits someone who understands how Ethiopian public administration actually functions and can translate that knowledge into practical permissions, partnerships, and goodwill for a development organization.

What the Requirements Say About This Role

The senior-level framing signals that Village Enterprise needs someone who can operate with minimal hand-holding in navigating bureaucratic structures — likely someone who has existing networks or at least deep familiarity with how regional and federal offices interact. The location pairing of Addis Ababa and Melkadida suggests they want a professional comfortable moving between high-level policy discussions in the capital and hands-on coordination in a remote, operationally challenging area. The profile being sought is less about technical development expertise and more about relationship capital, cultural fluency, and the ability to represent an international NGO credibly to government counterparts.

How to Approach This Application

Your application should demonstrate concrete experience navigating Ethiopian government processes — specific examples of permits secured, agreements negotiated, or relationships built across administrative levels will carry more weight than general statements about government engagement. Emphasize any prior work in Somali Region or other peripheral regions, as willingness and ability to travel there frequently is likely a key screening criterion. Given the one-year duration, show that you can deliver results quickly rather than needing a long ramp-up period.

Best Fit

Who This Role Suits

Best suited for a mid-to-senior professional with existing government or NGO liaison experience in Ethiopia, particularly someone with regional exposure beyond Addis. Competition may be moderate — the niche skill set and travel demands narrow the pool, but qualified candidates with Somali Region experience will stand out sharply.
