About This Role

This is a specialized consultancy contract focused on translating technical food systems training materials from English into the Afar language. The role suits a skilled translator with proven experience in agricultural or nutrition-related content, working under the guidance of an international nutrition foundation. GAIN’s focus on transforming food systems for better nutrition means your work will directly support capacity building in Afar-speaking communities.

What the Requirements Say About This Role

The call for proposals implies the need for a translator with native-level Afar proficiency and strong English comprehension, alongside familiarity with technical terminology in food systems, nutrition, or agriculture. Relevant experience in translating manuals or training materials is likely expected, and attention to accuracy and cultural appropriateness will be critical.

How to Approach This Application

Your proposal should highlight prior translation projects involving technical or development-sector content, especially for Ethiopian languages. Emphasize your understanding of food systems and nutrition concepts, and provide samples that demonstrate clarity and consistency in Afar. GAIN will prioritize translators who can maintain technical precision while ensuring the material is accessible to local trainers.

Who This Role Suits

This role is best for experienced translators with a background in development or agriculture who can deliver high-quality, culturally sensitive work. Competition may be moderate, as the niche language requirement limits the applicant pool but demands specialized expertise.
