About This Role

This is a senior technical advisory position within a multi-country green economy program, where you would be the primary architect of financial access strategies for young entrepreneurs in Ethiopia. FC Africa's role as Lead ESO under the GROW pillar means you would sit at the intersection of financial systems and youth entrepreneurship, shaping how capital reaches early-stage green businesses. The position suits someone who understands both the supply side (financial institutions, investment vehicles) and demand side (young entrepreneurs with limited collateral or track records) of enterprise finance in Ethiopia.

What the Requirements Say About This Role

The 5-8 year seniority band signals they need someone who has already navigated the practical barriers to SME finance in Ethiopia — not a theorist, but a practitioner who knows how banks actually assess risk and where informal financing fills gaps. The profile being sought is likely someone with existing relationships across commercial banks, microfinance institutions, and development finance actors, since this role depends on brokering connections rather than building them from scratch. Expect them to prioritize demonstrated experience designing financial products or mechanisms over general program management credentials.

How to Approach This Application

Lead with concrete examples of financial mechanisms you have designed or facilitated — credit guarantees, blended finance structures, matching funds, or similar instruments — and quantify the outcomes where possible. Because FC Africa operates as a consulting firm delivering on donor-funded programs, show that you understand accountability to both the client (Acumen/Mastercard Foundation) and the end beneficiary. Mention any experience working across multiple countries or with regional financial systems, as the role spans Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda.

Best Fit

Who This Role Suits

Best suited for someone who has worked in development finance, SME banking, or enterprise development with a strong Ethiopian financial sector network. Competition will be moderate to high given the funder profile, but candidates with genuine product design experience and cross-border exposure will stand out.

ABOUT FC Africa

FC Africa is a leading economic development consulting firm established in 2006, implementing high-impact programs across agriculture, manufacturing, and service sectors in Ethiopia and beyond. FC combines deep local context understanding with strong execution capability to deliver measurable outcomes in job creation, enterprise growth, investment mobilization, and inclusive economic development.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Green RISE Africa (GRA) is a five-year, multi-country initiative led by Acumen in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation to expand opportunities for young people, particularly young women, in the green economy. FC Africa serves as the Lead Entrepreneurship Support Organization (Lead ESO) for the GROW pillar in Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda, working with National Entrepreneurship Support Organizations (NESOs) and ecosystem partners to strengthen nano and micro green enterprises through tailored enterprise support, green skills, market linkages and access to finance. The programme aims to contribute to dignified and fulfilling work, enterprise resilience and inclusive green growth. Implementation is adapted to country and sector contexts, with a focus on underserved communities and entrepreneurs facing barriers to opportunity.

 POSITION SUMMARY

Based in Addis Ababa, the Regional Access to Finance Lead will provide strategic and technical leadership for the Green RISE Africa (GRA) access-to-finance (A2F) workstream across Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda. The Lead will design, develop, and facilitate innovative and practical A2F interventions that address the financing constraints of nano and micro green enterprises, particularly those led by women and youth. The role will provide technical guidance to NESOs on effective A2F approaches, enterprise finance readiness, financial linkages, and financing facilitation mechanisms, ensuring that access to finance is effectively integrated into enterprise development and coaching services. The Lead will also establish strategic partnerships with financial institutions and other market actors to develop appropriate financing solutions, mobilize financial resources, and expand financing opportunities for participating enterprises. The position will be responsible for ensuring coherent regional implementation, quality assurance, cross-country learning, and measurable A2F outcomes, while promoting commercially viable, inclusive, and sustainable financing models.

  • Guide NESOs in integrating finance-readiness assessments into enterprise diagnostics, business development services, and coaching interventions.
  • Support the design of targeted interventions to strengthen entrepreneurs' financial literacy, bookkeeping, cash-flow management, business planning, and financing preparedness.
  • Establish practical financing facilitation pathways that connect eligible enterprises with appropriate financial products and service providers.

  • Contribute to programme reports, technical briefs, knowledge products, and evidence-based recommendations on green enterprise financing.
  • Generate practical insights from programme implementation to inform discussions with financial institutions, development partners, investors, and policymakers.
  1. Stakeholder Engagement and Programme Representation
  • Represent FC Africa and GRA in relevant financial inclusion, green finance, MSME financing, and enterprise development forums at national and regional levels.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with government institutions, regulators, financial-sector associations, development partners, and private-sector stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration, resource mobilization, and strategic partnerships that strengthen the sustainability and potential scale of GRA's A2F interventions.
  • Provide technical input to programme planning, strategic discussions, partnership development, and other related assignments as required by the Regional Programme Director.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
