About This Role
This role is about shaping how Plan International Ethiopia is seen and heard across multiple audiences—from donors and government bodies to the communities it serves. It suits an experienced communications professional who can move beyond tactical tasks and guide the strategic direction of messaging, ensuring alignment with advocacy goals and fundraising efforts. Working within an international NGO context, you will balance public-facing campaigns with internal coherence, all while upholding the organization’s commitments to safeguarding and gender inclusion.
What the Requirements Say About This Role
The position calls for someone who not only understands media relations and content creation but can also design communication frameworks that support broader organizational objectives. You’re expected to have a grasp of rights-based messaging and how it intersects with development work, which implies comfort navigating sensitive topics like child protection and gender equality. The seniority level suggests the employer is looking for a leader who can mentor junior staff and manage complex stakeholder relationships, not just a writer or social media coordinator.
How to Approach This Application
To stand out, emphasize your experience in crafting narratives that serve both external visibility and internal alignment—show how you’ve linked communications to measurable outcomes like donor engagement or policy influence. Highlight any familiarity with safeguarding frameworks, as Plan International places high importance on this, and be ready to discuss how you’ve handled messaging in culturally sensitive or crisis contexts. Tailor your examples to Ethiopia’s development landscape, demonstrating an understanding of local media dynamics and community engagement.
Who This Role Suits
This role is best suited for a senior communications professional with NGO experience who thrives on strategic thinking and values mission-driven work. Competition will be moderate to strong, given the organization’s reputation and the position’s leadership scope.
The Opportunity
The position holder will be responsible to provide support for Influencing & Communication Department and will provide strategic leadership for internal and external communications, builds Plan International Ethiopia’s public profile, and ensures coherent and rights-based messaging to support advocacy, programs, and fundraising.
