About This Role

This role is about shaping how a major regional development organization tells its story across East Africa. As Communications Officer, you will manage the public narrative of an entity that blends development aid, investment, and advisory work — meaning your messaging must bridge the worlds of donors, private sector partners, and community stakeholders. It suits a seasoned communications professional who understands how to position a growing organization in a competitive development landscape, not just someone who writes press releases.

What the Requirements Say About This Role

The seniority level signals that this is not an entry-level coordinator role — the organization expects you to lead strategy, not just execute tasks. The implied profile is someone who has already managed complex stakeholder communications, possibly across multiple countries or programmes, and can demonstrate how their work directly contributed to organizational visibility or donor engagement. FC Africa likely values candidates who can show experience with both traditional media and digital platforms, as well as familiarity with the specific language and expectations of international development funders.

How to Approach This Application

Your application should focus on measurable outcomes from previous communications work — such as increased media coverage, improved donor reporting, or successful campaign metrics — rather than listing duties. Given FC Africa’s blended model of development and investment, emphasize any experience you have communicating across both non-profit and private sector contexts. Tailor your cover letter to show you understand how strategic communications can support fundraising and partner relations, not just public awareness.

Best Fit

Who This Role Suits

This role is best suited for a senior communications professional with 5–8 years of experience in development or related sectors, who is comfortable working across multiple audiences and can handle strategic pressure. Expect strong competition from experienced candidates within Ethiopia’s development sector.
