About This Role
This is a student affairs leadership post at a private higher education institution, where the dean serves as the primary bridge between administration and the student body. The role sits directly under the Vice President for Academic Affairs, meaning you will be translating institutional policy into everyday student experience — discipline, welfare, engagement, and support services. Private colleges in Ethiopia operate in a competitive enrollment environment, so student retention and satisfaction carry real institutional weight here, not just pastoral value.
What the Requirements Say About This Role
The profile being sought is someone who can operate at a policy level while remaining visible and approachable to students — a balance that rules out both pure administrators and purely pastoral candidates. Reporting to a VP signals the dean is expected to advise senior leadership, not simply enforce rules downward, so evidence of judgment and discretion matters more than years served. The executive seniority tag suggests HEUC wants someone who has already held responsibility for student services or academic administration, not a first-time manager.
How to Approach This Application
Emphasize concrete outcomes — retention improvements, disciplinary processes you handled fairly, student support programs you built or scaled — rather than describing duties you held. Given the reporting line, show that you can work with academic leadership on policy while advocating for students; frame examples where you balanced both. A short statement on how you would strengthen student welfare on a residential-style campus would set you apart from generic applicants.
Who This Role Suits
Best suited to experienced student affairs or academic administrators with prior higher-education management exposure; given the narrow candidate pool at this seniority in Addis Ababa, competition is likely moderate but the bar for demonstrated leadership is high.
