About This Role

This is a second-in-command position at an Ethiopian IT firm, meaning you would be the bridge between top-level strategy and the technical teams actually building and delivering projects. I Data Technologies operates in a sector where project timelines slip easily and client expectations run high, so the DGM's real job is keeping engineering work aligned with business commitments. It suits someone who has spent years inside software or engineering teams and now wants to step into operational leadership without leaving the technical world entirely.

What the Requirements Say About This Role

The advanced degree requirement signals that this company wants someone who can hold their own in strategic conversations, not just manage task lists. Asking for a master's in a technical field rather than an MBA tells you they value someone who understands what developers and engineers actually do — the challenges, the trade-offs, the realistic timelines. The 5-8 year window suggests they want enough experience to command respect from technical staff, but someone still hungry enough to grow with the role rather than coast into retirement.

How to Approach This Application

Your CV should lead with evidence that you have managed technical projects end to end — budgets, deadlines, team coordination — because that is what separates this from a purely administrative management role. If you have experience resolving friction between technical teams and clients, make that visible; it is likely the hardest part of this job. A brief cover letter connecting your technical background to operational leadership would carry more weight here than a generic application, since the company is small enough that individual motivation is noticed.

Best Fit

Who This Role Suits

Best suited to a senior software engineer, project lead, or technical manager with a master's degree who is ready for executive-level responsibility in a growing Ethiopian tech company. Competition will be moderate but concentrated among candidates who have both the technical depth and the management exposure — those with only one of the two will struggle to stand out.
