About This Role

This is a field-based livelihoods role within an HIV response programme, where the core work is helping vulnerable families build income security so they can stay engaged with treatment and care. ODA is a long-established local organisation with deep community ties in Oromia, and this project operates across multiple towns, meaning the officer will likely split time between a coordination office and site-level activity. It suits someone who has run economic strengthening or livelihood interventions before and is comfortable linking social protection work to health outcomes.

What the Requirements Say About This Role

The senior-level expectation signals that ODA wants someone who can design and manage interventions rather than simply deliver them — likely someone who has supervised savings groups, cash transfers, or small business support and can adapt approaches to families facing health-related instability. The sector mix (social sciences, business, agriculture) suggests the profile is someone who understands both the household economics and the practical realities of rural and peri-urban livelihoods. Experience with HIV-affected or otherwise vulnerable populations is probably weighted heavily, since the role sits inside a clinical-adjacent programme rather than a standalone livelihood project.

How to Approach This Application

Your application should make the link between economic strengthening and health outcomes explicit — show that you understand why income stability matters for treatment adherence, not just as a general development goal. Highlight any experience coordinating across multiple sites or with case management teams, as the project's structure implies close collaboration with health and social workers. Concrete examples of interventions you designed or adapted, with outcomes, will carry more weight than a list of past employers.

Best Fit

Who This Role Suits

Best suited to a mid-to-senior practitioner with hands-on livelihood programme experience in Oromia or similar contexts, ideally with prior exposure to HIV or vulnerable-group programming. Competition is likely moderate but real, since the role requires both technical livelihood skills and comfort working within a health-focused consortium.
