About This Role
This is a field-based management role running General Food Distribution (GFD) and Supplementary Feeding (SF) operations for International Medical Corps in Dollo-Bokolmayo, a hardship location in the Somali region. The position sits between country office strategy and day-to-day field execution, meaning you would be the person translating programme plans into actual distributions, staffing decisions, and community-level outcomes. It suits someone who has already managed humanitarian food programmes in remote or insecure settings and is prepared to live and work far from Addis Ababa. IMC is a large international NGO, so you would be joining an organisation with established systems, donor reporting obligations, and strict accountability standards.
What the Requirements Say About This Role
The seniority band and the reporting lines described suggest IMC is looking for someone who can operate with real autonomy in the field while staying tightly coordinated with country office technical leads — a balance that requires both independence and disciplined communication. The profile implied is a practitioner who has handled food distribution or nutrition programming at scale, likely with refugee or displacement-affected populations, and who understands donor compliance and commodity pipeline management, not just community mobilisation. The emphasis on close technical follow-up from the Country Office signals that reporting quality, data accuracy, and adherence to protocols will be scrutinised, so the ideal candidate is systems-oriented as much as field-savvy.
How to Approach This Application
Your application should foreground concrete scale — tonnage distributed, beneficiary numbers reached, number of staff supervised, and the specific donors or programmes you have worked under — because field management roles are assessed on demonstrated operational track record rather than academic background. Highlight any experience in Somali region or comparable hard-to-reach contexts, and show that you understand security management and community acceptance dynamics, since these are daily realities in Dollo-Bokolmayo. Given IMC's explicit anti-fraud warning in the listing, expect integrity and accountability to be weighted heavily; mention any experience with compliance audits, complaint and feedback mechanisms, or beneficiary data protection. A CV tailored to food assistance and nutrition rather than general humanitarian work will stand out.
Who This Role Suits
Best suited to an experienced humanitarian programme manager with food distribution or nutrition expertise who has already worked in remote, security-sensitive field locations and can handle the isolation of a hardship posting. Competition is likely moderate — the talent pool with both the technical background and willingness to relocate to Dollo-Bokolmayo is narrow, which works in a well-qualified candidate's favour.
