About This Role

This is a hands-on, on-your-feet IT role inside a working hotel, where the "office" is the front desk, the corridors, and the guest rooms. Unlike a desk-bound helpdesk job, you would be the person physically installing and fixing the systems that keep guests checked in, connected, and secure. The listing is posted under a furniture production company name but describes a hotel operation, so expect a small, informally structured IT function where one technician covers a lot of ground.

What the Requirements Say About This Role

The 1–3 year band and the emphasis on physical capability signal that this employer wants someone early-career who is willing to do the unglamorous side of IT — pulling cable, moving equipment, and responding to calls at night — rather than a specialist who manages from a screen. The mix of PMS, door locks, CCTV, and Wi-Fi points to a generalist profile: they need breadth and reliability more than depth in any single system. Resilience and shift adaptability are effectively core qualifications here, not nice-to-haves, so the ideal candidate is someone who treats odd hours and physical work as part of the job.

How to Approach This Application

Since hotel IT never stops, lead with evidence that you have worked in environments with live, always-on systems and that you can handle after-hours or emergency calls without disruption. Name the specific systems you have touched — PMS platforms, access control, CCTV, network hardware — even briefly, because the employer is scanning for familiarity across all of them. Given the physical and shift demands, mention any prior experience in hospitality, retail, or other 24/7 operations; it quietly answers their biggest concern about whether you will last.

Best Fit

Who This Role Suits

Best suited to an early-career technician who wants broad, practical exposure across hotel systems and is comfortable with shift work and hands-on cabling. Competition is likely moderate — the candidate pool is large, but many applicants will be put off by the night shifts and physical demands, which works in your favor if you are genuinely willing.

About the Role
We are a hotel based in Addis Ababa looking for an IT Support Specialist. The role involves daily maintenance and technical support for the hotel's network, Property Management System (PMS), guest room internet, and various hardware/software. As this role involves lifting heavy equipment, cabling work, and emergency night-shift responses, we are looking for a physically capable, resilient technician who can adapt to shift work.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Daily IT Support: Install, configure, and troubleshoot computers, printers, routers, and switches across the front desk, guest rooms, F&B areas, and offices.
  2. System Maintenance: Maintain the Property Management System (PMS), door lock systems, Wi-Fi networks, and CCTV systems to ensure smooth hotel operations.
  3. Network & Cabling: Assist in laying, maintaining, and repairing internal network cables (requires physical stamina, such as running cables, climbing ladders, and moving equipment).
  4. Emergency Response: Adapt to the hotel industry's nature; respond quickly to urgent IT failures during nights or weekends.
  5. Data Security & Backup: Assist in server data backups and basic network security protection.
  6. Asset Management: Responsible for IT asset registration, distribution, and inventory management.

Requirements

  1. Education: Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field.
  2. Experience: 1+ year of IT support or network maintenance experience; hotel IT experience is a plus.
  3. Language Skills: Good English proficiency, able to read technical documents and communicate basic spoken English with expat management and guests. Amharic is a plus.
  4. Technical Skills: Familiar with Windows OS, LAN configuration, and basic routing/switching; able to troubleshoot hardware and network issues independently.
  5. Physical & Working Conditions (Core): This role requires physical labor (e.g., lifting heavy equipment, cabling) and adaptability to shift work (including night shifts) and on-call emergency repairs.
  6. Personal Attributes: Hardworking, highly responsible, and possess a strong service mindset.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary (negotiable).
  • Hands-on experience with professional hotel IT systems.
  • A supportive team environment.
