About This Role
This is a build-and-maintain role inside a microfinance institution's internal IT team, where you would write and support the software that keeps lending operations running rather than ship products for external customers. It suits someone early in their programming career who wants broad exposure to the full application lifecycle in a mission-driven setting. VisionFund's focus on serving rural and urban communities across six regional states means the systems you touch directly affect how loans and financial services reach people who are often underserved by mainstream banking.
What the Requirements Say About This Role
The profile being sought is a generalist rather than a specialist — the emphasis on both developing new in-house tools and supporting API integration signals that you will be expected to handle varied tasks rather than own one narrow component. The junior framing combined with a 1–3 year band suggests they want someone who can work with some independence but still benefits from guidance, so demonstrable hands-on project experience will matter more than credentials alone. Because this is a microfinance institution rather than a tech company, the underlying expectation is likely reliability and resourcefulness over cutting-edge stack familiarity.
How to Approach This Application
Lead with concrete examples of applications you have built or maintained end to end, especially anything involving APIs or connecting separate systems, since integration support appears central to the work. Given the institution's social mandate, briefly connecting your motivation to financial inclusion or community impact can differentiate you from applicants who treat this as just another IT opening. Be prepared to speak to how you debug and improve existing code, not only how you write new code — maintenance is clearly part of the job.
Who This Role Suits
Best suited to a junior developer with one to three years of practical experience who is comfortable in a structured institutional environment and wants meaningful, stable work rather than a fast-scaling startup pace. With only two positions available, expect reasonable but not overwhelming competition from local IT graduates and early-career developers.
