Network Planning & Optimization Engineer
Huawei Technologies Ethiopia PLCAbout This Role
This is a frontline technical delivery role inside Huawei's managed-services operation, meaning you are Huawei's engineer on the ground for an Ethiopian operator's radio network. The job sits at the point where vendor obligations meet operator KPIs, so the work is judged by measurable network performance rather than by reports alone. It suits an engineer who is comfortable alternating between field work (drive tests, site visits) and deep parameter-level analysis, and who can carry a project with limited supervision.
What the Requirements Say About This Role
The seniority band signals they want someone who has already owned optimization decisions end to end, not an engineer who executes scripts handed down by others. Expect the screening to weigh hands-on radio access experience and vendor-side or operator-side delivery exposure heavily, with Huawei equipment familiarity as a strong differentiator. The mention of TE/TL/TD/SA progression hints at an internal ladder where they expect you to grow into team leadership, so evidence of coordinating juniors or leading workstreams matters even if the title does not say "lead."
How to Approach This Application
Frame your CV around network outcomes you personally improved — specific KPI movements, problem cells resolved, projects delivered on schedule — because this employer evaluates engineers by delivery record. Name the equipment vendors and technologies you have worked with explicitly, and if you have Huawei certifications or platform experience, put them near the top. Mention willingness to travel to regional sites, since frontline mobility is central to the role and is often where candidates get filtered out.
Who This Role Suits
Best suited to an RF or radio optimization engineer with several years of operator or vendor delivery experience who wants project-level responsibility and a path toward technical leadership. Competition is likely moderate but narrow — the pool of engineers in Ethiopia with genuine Huawei or large-scale LTE/5G optimization depth is small, so strong, specific experience stands out quickly.
Job Responsibilities
- Travel to the frontline as a wireless network planning and optimization technical engineer (TE/TL/TD/SA) to take charge of onsite or remote delivery of network planning and optimization projects, including network planning, drive test, KPI monitoring, parameter optimization, and special scenario optimization.
- Provide technical assurance for network planning and optimization projects, identify and resolve network quality risks and issues, and undertake key project responsibilities, including technical solution development, coverage and capacity analysis, interference analysis, and network performance improvement.
- Be responsible for customer support in SLA, including KPI monitoring and analysis, parameter tuning, neighbor optimization, handover optimization, and complaint handling, to continuously improve network quality and user experience.
- Take part in customer training, skill transfer to internal employees, and knowledge accumulation (including local employee cultivation and personnel echelon building) in the project team or team.
- Fully communicate with the customer during delivery/SLA project and be responsible for successful project delivery and customer satisfaction.
Service skill requirements:
- Have strong communication skills and be able to effectively communicate with customers, including technical solutions and optimization reports. Be able to actively guide customers and obtain customer support and project team recognition.
- Have strong data analysis capabilities, be able to analyze drive test data, KPI statistics, and signaling traces, and locate and resolve network quality issues.
- Be able to identify network quality risks (such as coverage, interference, capacity, and handover issues) and take effective measures to optimize and improve them.
- Identify and manage technical issues, develop optimization plans and solutions, and complete optimization reports and design reviews.
- 5-8 years of experience in the telecom field (familiar with 2G/3G/4G/5G wireless network planning and optimization).
- Obey the global project allocation;
Requirements for professional knowledge:
- Proficient in wireless network principles and key technologies (such as Massive MIMO, Carrier Aggregation, and VoLTE), and familiar with network planning and optimization methodologies.
- Proficient in using drive test and optimization tools (such as GENEX Probe/Assistant, U2000/NCE, and performance management platforms).
- Familiar with KPI definitions and optimization methods for coverage, handover, access, retention, and traffic, and able to independently complete KPI analysis and optimization.
- Ability to independently complete network planning (coverage/capacity simulation), parameter planning, and special scenario optimization; HCIP/HCIE or equivalent certification is preferred.
How To Apply
