About This Role
This role places you at the heart of community-level conflict transformation in a region marked by displacement and intercommunal tension. As a Peacebuilding Assistant with the Danish Refugee Council, you will be the hands-on facilitator who turns high-level peace strategies into tangible dialogue sessions, training events, and grassroots reconciliation efforts. It is ideal for a junior professional who is comfortable working in a field-based, often unpredictable environment and who values direct engagement with community members over desk-based analysis. The Benishangul Gumuz context means you will need cultural sensitivity, patience, and a genuine commitment to bridging divides.
What the Requirements Say About This Role
The job is seeking someone who can translate peacebuilding theory into practice, not just a graduate with a degree in peace studies. The implied profile is a proactive networker who can earn trust in communities where suspicion runs high, and who can document and report on sensitive conversations without oversimplifying them. Experience in conflict-prone or multi-ethnic settings is likely valued more than academic credentials alone, and the employer probably prioritizes candidates who demonstrate emotional resilience and strong local language skills.
How to Approach This Application
To stand out, your cover letter should tell a specific story about a time you mediated a disagreement or helped a divided group find common ground—even if it was in a non-professional setting. Since the CV is limited to three pages, prioritize your most relevant field experience and any training in conflict resolution, mediation, or community mobilization. The employer likely reads applications quickly, so use clear section headers and bullet points that highlight your ability to work under pressure in remote areas.
Who This Role Suits
This role is best suited for a junior professional with 1–2 years of grassroots experience in humanitarian or development work, ideally in a multi-ethnic or border region. Given DRC’s reputation and the sensitive location, it will be moderately competitive among candidates already based in or connected to Assosa and its surroundings.
