About This Role

This is a field-based pharmaceutical management role with an NGO delivering mobile health and nutrition services to pastoralist communities in the Borena zone. Unlike hospital or retail pharmacy work, the core of this job is supply chain oversight — making sure medicines and nutrition commodities actually reach remote mobile teams without stockouts or spoilage. It suits a pharmacist who is comfortable working in low-resource, hardship settings and who understands that in humanitarian health programming, logistics discipline saves lives just as much as clinical knowledge does.

What the Requirements Say About This Role

The 3–5 year experience expectation signals that PAPDA wants someone who has already handled procurement cycles and warehouse management independently, not someone who needs supervision on the basics. The emphasis on both "rational use of drugs" and "compliance with national standards" suggests they need a pharmacist who can balance practical field realities with donor accountability — someone who can train health workers on proper dispensing while also keeping documentation audit-ready. The reporting line to a Health and Nutrition Officer (rather than a senior pharmacist) implies this is a hands-on, self-managing position where you will be the sole pharmaceutical authority on the team.

How to Approach This Application

Your application should lead with concrete examples of managing pharmaceutical supply chains in remote or emergency settings — specific numbers help, such as how many health posts you supported or how you reduced stockouts. Highlight any experience with nutrition commodities (RUTF, therapeutic milks) since the MHNT context makes that a likely day-to-day responsibility. Given the 8-month contract and pastoralist focus, demonstrating that you have worked in Oromia or similar low-access regions will set you apart from candidates with only urban pharmacy backgrounds.

Best Fit

Who This Role Suits

Best suited for a mid-career pharmacist with NGO or humanitarian health experience who is genuinely willing to live and work in a remote woreda — this is not a role for someone seeking urban convenience. Competition will likely be moderate, but the pool of pharmacists with both field experience and willingness to relocate to Borena is small, so qualified candidates from the region have a real advantage.
