About This Role
This position sits at the intersection of program delivery and external relations, acting as the connective tissue between Medical Teams International and the government bodies, partner organizations, and community stakeholders it works alongside in Mekelle. The role suits someone who understands how humanitarian health programs operate in Tigray's post-conflict context and can navigate bureaucratic relationships without losing sight of programmatic goals. Because the organization frames its work around a faith-driven mission, comfort with that identity matters as much as technical skill.
What the Requirements Say About This Role
The mid-level experience expectation signals that this is not an entry-level coordination role — the employer wants someone who has already learned how to manage competing stakeholder interests and can represent an organization credibly in formal settings. The emphasis on safeguarding and background checks in the description suggests the organization treats trust and integrity as non-negotiable, particularly given the vulnerability of the populations it serves. Underneath the liaison framing, the profile being sought is someone equally capable of relationship management and program support — a bridge-builder rather than a pure administrator.
How to Approach This Application
Your application should demonstrate familiarity with Tigray's humanitarian and health landscape specifically, since the employer will want to see that you understand the operational realities on the ground rather than generic coordination experience. Highlight instances where you managed relationships with government offices, local authorities, or partner agencies — these are the scenarios that will resonate. Given the organization's explicit faith identity and safeguarding posture, showing alignment with its values and demonstrating a clean professional record should be treated as part of your core pitch, not an afterthought.
Who This Role Suits
Best suited for a mid-career Ethiopian professional with humanitarian or health sector experience in Tigray who is comfortable operating in politically sensitive stakeholder environments. Competition is likely moderate but selective, as the pool of candidates with both the contextual knowledge and liaison experience is limited.
