About This Role

This role is about steering the strategic and operational direction of HEKS/EPER’s country portfolio in Ethiopia, not just managing individual projects. You will serve as the bridge between high-level donor requirements and field-level realities, requiring you to oversee program quality, budget compliance, and team coordination across multiple regions. It is suited for a seasoned development professional who thrives on systemic thinking and is comfortable representing an international NGO in high-stakes coordination meetings.

What the Requirements Say About This Role

The profile sought is that of a senior program leader who has moved beyond direct implementation into multi-project oversight and donor relationship management. The emphasis on “frequent travel to project locations” signals that the employer values hands-on field engagement, not just desk-based reporting. They are looking for someone who can translate complex donor frameworks into actionable local strategies while ensuring compliance and impact measurement.

How to Approach This Application

In your application, lead with your experience in managing multi-donor portfolios (e.g., SDC, EU, UN) and highlight specific examples of how you’ve improved program quality or compliance across several projects simultaneously. Emphasize your familiarity with Ethiopian regional contexts and your ability to navigate government stakeholder engagement, as the role requires both strategic oversight and local credibility. Avoid listing tasks—instead, frame your achievements in terms of systemic outcomes like improved reporting efficiency or expanded program reach.

Best Fit

Who This Role Suits

This is a demanding senior role best suited for an Ethiopian professional with at least 8–10 years in development management, ideally within an INGO, and a track record of leading diverse teams. Competition will be strong, given HEKS/EPER’s reputation, but candidates with direct experience in conflict-affected or multi-sectoral programs will have an edge.
