About This Role
This is a ground-level engineering role focused on ensuring that the water supply, drainage, and fire protection systems in a building project are technically sound, code-compliant, and free of design conflicts before construction begins. It suits a detail-oriented junior engineer who enjoys cross-checking drawings and calculations rather than supervising large teams. Reality Share Company appears to be a hands-on construction firm where precision in the pre-construction phase is highly valued.
What the Requirements Say About This Role
The need for a sanitary engineer with only 1-3 years of experience suggests the company is seeking someone trainable and meticulous, not necessarily a seasoned manager. The emphasis on auditing design drawings and verifying hydraulic calculations implies the employer wants a candidate who can think critically about system performance, not just follow instructions. This role likely demands strong familiarity with local building codes and a willingness to catch errors that more senior staff might overlook.
How to Approach This Application
In your application, highlight any specific experience you have with plumbing or drainage design review, even from academic projects or internships. Emphasize your ability to spot clashes between different building systems (e.g., plumbing vs. structural) and your comfort with hydraulic calculations. Since the company values cost-effective material suggestions, mention any knowledge you have of local, affordable alternatives for piping and fixtures. A portfolio of sample design audits or calculation sheets would strengthen your case.
Who This Role Suits
This role is best suited for a junior engineer who thrives on technical precision and enjoys problem-solving within design constraints. It is likely moderately competitive, as it offers a clear path to gain specialized experience in a critical construction phase.
Sanitary Engineer
Location Type: Addis Ababa
Deadline: June 12, 2026- June 20, 2026
Salary: Negotiable and attractive
Reports To: Site Engineer
Key Role Responsibilities of a Sanitary Engineer
A Sanitary Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the building's water, and drainage systems are safe, efficient, and compliant with local building codes.
Before construction begins, the sanitary engineer must meticulously audit the design drawings.
- Review plumbing, drainage, and fire protection layouts against architectural and structural drawings to identify and resolve clashes
- Verify hydraulic calculations for water demand, peak wastewater discharge, and rainwater runoff to ensure pipe sizing, pump capacities, and water storage volumes are adequate.
- Suggest cost-effective, high-performance material alternatives.
Supervise the installation of the entire water cycle:
- Cold & Hot Water Systems: Booster pump sets, water meters for individual units, central or individual water heaters, and ring mains.
- Wastewater & Soil Systems: Soil and waste stacks, vent pipes, and grease traps for kitchen lines.
- Stormwater Systems: Roof drainage, balconies outlets, rainwater downpipes, and connection to the municipal storm drain.
- Coordinate with the structural team to ensure pipe sleeves are accurately placed in concrete slabs and shear walls before pouring concrete.
- Material Inspection: Verify that delivered plumbing materials (PPR, HDPE, PVC pipes, valves, fittings, pumps, and sanitary fixtures) match approved technical data sheets and project specifications.
- Storage Oversight: Ensure materials are stored correctly on site.
- Workmanship Inspection: Check pipe slope gradients, alignment, hanger/support spacing, and joint sealing to prevent future sags or leaks.
Testing, Commissioning, and Quality Assurance
- Pressure Testing: Conduct hydrostatic pressure tests on water supply lines to check for leaks.
- Gravity/Leak Testing: Perform smoke, air, or water tests on drainage and soil stacks to guarantee watertight joints.
- Disinfection: Oversee the flushing and chlorination of the domestic water system before final handover to ensure water safety.
- Pump Commissioning: Test and calibrate water booster pumps, sump pumps, and transfer systems to ensure automatic float switches and pressure settings function correctly.
Coordination and Project Management
- MEP Coordination: Work closely with Electrical Engineers (for pump power supply and control panels) and HVAC Engineers (for drainage of AC condensate lines).
- Quantity Take-Offs (QTO): Track material consumption, verify subcontractor progress invoices against actual site installations, and manage variations or additional work orders.
- As-Built Documentation: Prepare and maintain precise "as-built" drawings, operation and maintenance (O&M) manuals, and testing logs for the eventual handing over to the property management team.
