About This Role

This role involves providing direct psychosocial support and community-based assistance to vulnerable populations in remote rural areas of the Waghimira Zone. As a social worker with Positive Action for Development, you will be the frontline link between humanitarian programs and communities affected by displacement or hardship. It suits early-career professionals who are resilient, culturally attuned, and ready to work in hard-to-reach settings with limited infrastructure.

What the Requirements Say About This Role

The emphasis on language proficiency indicates that the employer prioritizes candidates who can communicate fluently with local communities, likely in Amharic and the local dialect. The requirement for 1–3 years of experience suggests they are looking for someone with practical fieldwork exposure rather than theoretical knowledge alone. The need for deployment across multiple woredas implies you must be comfortable with frequent travel and adapting to varied community dynamics.

How to Approach This Application

In your cover letter, highlight specific instances where you have engaged directly with rural communities, especially in conflict-affected or food-insecure areas. Emphasize your ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as these remote duty stations require self-reliance. Also, mention any experience with case management, community mobilization, or trauma-informed care, even if informal or volunteer-based.

Best Fit

Who This Role Suits

This role is ideal for a compassionate and adaptable junior professional who wants to build field experience in humanitarian social work. Given the remote location and multiple vacancies, competition may be moderate but lower than for Addis-based roles.
