About This Role

This is a campus operations role dressed in community-facing clothing. You are essentially the person accountable for how the school's sports and activity facilities perform when students, parents, staff, and external community members are using them — which means your job blends facility readiness, safety oversight, and front-line customer experience. The International Community School of Addis Ababa serves a diverse, international school community with high expectations, so the standard you're held to is closer to hospitality than to typical school maintenance coordination. It suits someone who is comfortable being the visible authority figure on a field or in a gym, not someone who prefers desk-bound work.

What the Requirements Say About This Role

The 3–5 year mid-level band tells you they want someone who has already managed people and spaces in a real operational setting — not a fresh graduate learning on the job. The emphasis on flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays is a filtering mechanism: they are signalling that availability, not just competence, is a core part of the profile. Expect them to look for a background that combines facility or sports operations with genuine customer service instincts, because the role sits at the intersection of physical infrastructure and community relations. The unspoken requirement is composure — you will be the person enforcing school rules with adults who may not want to be told what to do.

How to Approach This Application

Lead with concrete examples of situations you have personally handled: a facility conflict you resolved, a safety issue you caught before it escalated, a time you managed a busy weekend schedule without supervision. Because this is an international school, demonstrate that you can communicate clearly with people from different cultural backgrounds and that you understand why parents in this community expect a certain level of polish. If you have any experience with sports programmes, coaching, or events coordination, surface it — it signals you understand the rhythm of activity spaces rather than just viewing them as buildings. Be explicit about your availability for evening and weekend shifts; ambiguity here will cost you.

Best Fit

Who This Role Suits

Best suited to someone with a sports, hospitality, or campus operations background who genuinely enjoys being on their feet and interacting with a community. Competition is likely moderate but the pool is narrow — many applicants will have the operational experience but not the customer-facing temperament, which is what this role ultimately rewards.
