About This Role
This is a hybrid design position that sits at the intersection of architecture and lighting engineering, where you will shape how outdoor spaces, public areas, and urban environments look and feel after dark. Fama Import Export appears to operate in the import and supply space, which suggests the company may be distributing lighting products while also offering design services to clients — meaning you could be both designing and helping sell the vision. It suits an architect who wants to specialize rather than generalize, and who is comfortable working at the pace of a commercial operation rather than a slow-moving design studio.
What the Requirements Say About This Role
Asking for three to five years of experience signals that Fama wants someone who has already moved past the learning-on-the-job phase and can independently manage a design from concept through to technical documentation. The emphasis on multiple creative concepts and 3D visualization points to a client-facing role where you will need to present options and sell ideas, not just produce drawings. The mention of working efficiently in a fast-paced environment is a gentle way of saying deadlines are tight and the workload is real — this is not a position where you will have weeks to refine a single concept. The blend of architectural drawing skills with lighting-specific knowledge suggests they are looking for someone who understands both the structural and the aesthetic sides of outdoor design.
How to Approach This Application
Your portfolio will carry more weight than your CV here, so lead with visual work that shows outdoor or public space projects — even academic or personal projects count if they demonstrate lighting thinking. In your cover letter or interview, be ready to explain your design process quickly and clearly, because the company likely wants to see how you think on your feet. If you have any experience working with lighting products, suppliers, or manufacturers, mention it — that knowledge is directly relevant to an import-export business. Also, be prepared to discuss how you handle multiple projects simultaneously, since the role explicitly calls for managing several concepts at once.
Who This Role Suits
This role is best suited for an architect with a genuine interest in lighting design who wants to work in a commercial, output-driven environment rather than a purely artistic studio. Competition is likely moderate — the niche focus on landscape lighting narrows the candidate pool, but the location and the company's profile may attract a steady stream of applicants from Addis Ababa's growing architecture and construction sector.
