Child Protection and Violence Against Women and Girls Coordinator
World Vision EthiopiaAbout This Role
This is a frontline humanitarian coordination role based in Tigray, where you would design and run emergency child protection and gender-based violence programmes for displaced communities. World Vision Ethiopia operates one of the largest humanitarian footprints in the country, so you would be stepping into a well-established response structure rather than building from scratch. The position suits someone who can move between case management, community mobilisation, and inter-agency coordination without losing focus on the people behind the caseload. Expect the work to be shaped by the realities of post-conflict Tigray — fluid security, strained services, and high needs.
What the Requirements Say About This Role
The 3-5 year threshold signals they want someone who has already managed protection programmes in a humanitarian setting, not someone learning emergency response on the job. The emphasis on coordinating across health, nutrition, WASH, and education tells you this is a cross-sector role — they need a coordinator who can advocate for protection concerns in meetings dominated by other technical agendas. The profile being sought is someone comfortable with both the technical side of GBV and child protection programming and the diplomatic work of keeping multiple agencies aligned.
How to Approach This Application
Lead with concrete examples of protection programmes you have coordinated in emergency or displacement contexts — specific caseloads, referral pathways you set up, or inter-agency forums you contributed to. Because Tigray is a post-conflict environment, showing familiarity with conflict-sensitive programming and do-no-harm principles will set you apart. The employer will likely prioritise demonstrated experience with GBV response specifically, since that is often the harder half of this dual mandate to staff.
Who This Role Suits
Best suited for a protection or GBV professional with prior NGO field experience in Ethiopia's humanitarian sector who is ready for a demanding, coordination-heavy assignment. Competition will be significant given World Vision's profile and the limited pool of candidates with both child protection and GBV coordination experience.
