About This Role

This is a field-based nursing post with PAPDA's Mobile Health and Nutrition Team, delivering outpatient care, maternal and child health services, and emergency response in one of Oromia's most remote and underserved zones. The role suits a clinically confident nurse who is comfortable working outside a fixed health facility, often in pastoralist communities where access to care is limited. PAPDA is a development association with deep roots in pastoralist regions, so expect a strong community-outreach dimension alongside clinical duties. The 12-month contract reflects the project-funded nature of the work, which is typical for NGO health interventions in the Borena area.

What the Requirements Say About This Role

The three-to-five-year experience expectation signals that PAPDA wants someone who can practice independently in the field, not a nurse who still needs close supervision. The emphasis on planning and resource identification suggests they need a self-starter who can anticipate supply and logistics gaps before they disrupt service delivery, a common challenge for mobile teams. Given the pastoralist setting and the MHNT model, prior exposure to emergency or humanitarian health contexts will likely weigh more heavily than hospital-based experience alone.

How to Approach This Application

Your application should demonstrate that you understand mobile health delivery, not just clinical nursing, so highlight any experience with outreach campaigns, vaccination drives, or working in low-resource settings. Mention familiarity with Oromia's pastoralist communities or similar contexts, and be specific about how you have handled supply shortages or adapted care plans in the field. Since the reporting line is to a Health and Nutrition Officer, showing you can coordinate with non-clinical colleagues and contribute to reports and work plans will set you apart.

Best Fit

Who This Role Suits

This role is best suited to a mid-career nurse who thrives in remote, resource-limited environments and is motivated by community-level impact rather than hospital career progression. Competition is likely moderate, as the remote duty station will deter many urban-based applicants, but those with MHNT or NGO field experience will have a clear edge.
