Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Specialist (On behalf of Benishangul Gumuz Health Bureau)
Medical Teams InternationalAbout This Role
This position places a specialist physician at the heart of a hospital capacity-building effort in one of Ethiopia's most underserved regions. You would be the referral point for ENT cases that previously required dangerous and costly travel to distant tertiary hospitals, serving refugees, displaced families, and host communities through an EU-funded project managed by Medical Teams International. It suits a clinician who wants genuine clinical autonomy and visible impact rather than a comfortable urban post.
What the Requirements Say About This Role
The mid-level experience band signals that the employer wants someone past the learning curve but still early enough in their career to embrace a demanding, resource-constrained setting. Expect the selection panel to weigh your ability to work independently without senior ENT backup far more than your academic record. The profile being sought is a practically minded surgeon-clinician who can improvise, triage wisely, and mentor general practitioners and health officers around them.
How to Approach This Application
Your application should speak directly to the reality of Assosa: limited equipment, a heavy and varied caseload, and patients who arrive late with advanced disease. Highlight concrete cases where you managed complex ENT conditions with constrained resources, and mention any experience serving refugee or displaced populations. Given the project's EU funding and its focus on reducing avoidable referrals, showing that you understand health system strengthening—not just clinical work—will set you apart.
Who This Role Suits
This role best suits an ENT specialist seeking meaningful public health impact and comfortable living in a remote regional town; competition is likely modest, but the employer will screen hard for genuine willingness to relocate and stay.
Under the EU-funded INTEPA project, Medical Teams International (MTI) provides financial support to strengthen the capacity of Assosa General Hospital to deliver quality specialized healthcare services to refugees, internally displaced populations, and vulnerable host communities. Through this initiative, Assosa General Hospital will employ and deploy a qualified ENT Specialist to expand access to specialized diagnosis and treatment, improve the quality of patient care, and reduce avoidable referrals to tertiary hospitals.
