About This Role

This is a field-based economic strengthening position within a long-established local NGO delivering an HIV response project across multiple Oromia towns. The work sits at the intersection of livelihoods programming and community health: helping vulnerable households—many affected by HIV—build income-generating capacity and financial resilience. It suits someone who wants development work with tangible household-level impact rather than corporate economic analysis, and who is comfortable operating in Shashemene with travel across project woredas.

What the Requirements Say About This Role

The 3–5 year band signals they want someone who has already run livelihood or economic strengthening activities in the field and can work with minimal hand-holding—this is not a training role. The profile being sought is likely a hybrid: part economist who can assess household finances and market opportunities, part community facilitator who can train and mentor beneficiaries and coordinate with local stakeholders. Experience in NGO settings, particularly HIV or vulnerable-population programming, will likely separate shortlisted candidates from the rest.

How to Approach This Application

Emphasize concrete results from past livelihoods or economic strengthening work—numbers of households supported, income changes achieved, savings groups formed, or training delivered—rather than general statements about commitment to development. Show familiarity with Oromia's local context and, if applicable, with HIV-affected or marginalized communities, since the project's focus is specific. A cover letter that connects your field experience directly to community-level economic resilience will stand out more than a generic CV.

Best Fit

Who This Role Suits

Best suited to development professionals with hands-on NGO livelihoods experience who are ready to work across several towns from a Shashemene base; competition will be moderate, drawing candidates from the local NGO and humanitarian sector.
