About This Role

This is a field-based position with a grassroots NGO, meaning the HIV Service Officer spends more time in communities than behind a desk. HUNDEE has been operating in Oromia since the mid-1990s, so you would be joining an established local organization rather than a new project. The work involves directly supporting HIV-affected populations in Shashemene and surrounding woredas under a donor-funded program, which means balancing community engagement with reporting obligations to ISHIDO.

What the Requirements Say About This Role

The junior-level framing with 1-3 years of experience signals that HUNDEE wants someone who has already done frontline health or community work but is still early enough in their career to be hands-on and adaptable. The profile they are seeking is likely someone comfortable navigating rural Oromia, speaking Afaan Oromo fluently, and engaging sensitively with people living with HIV. Prior exposure to NGO or donor-funded projects would set you apart, since the reporting and accountability expectations in this sector differ from government health facility work.

How to Approach This Application

Your application should demonstrate familiarity with the Oromia context specifically — mention any experience working in or near the listed woredas if you have it. Emphasize your ability to work independently in field settings and your understanding of HIV prevention, care, or support services, even if your experience was in a different health area. HUNDEE is a local organization with a community-driven identity, so showing genuine connection to grassroots work matters more than polished corporate language.

Best Fit

Who This Role Suits

This role suits an early-career health or social work professional from the Oromia region who wants meaningful community-level experience with a well-established local NGO. Competition will likely be moderate, drawing candidates from nearby towns and health graduates seeking NGO entry points.
