About This Role
This position places you at the frontline of maternal and newborn care within a private medical complex in Addis Ababa, where midwives typically carry significant clinical responsibility across the full continuum of pregnancy and birth. Unlike larger public hospitals where roles may be narrowly specialised, a mid-level midwife at a facility like NLMC is likely expected to work with considerable autonomy while still operating within a defined scope. It suits someone who is clinically confident, calm under pressure, and genuinely committed to respectful, patient-centred maternity care.
What the Requirements Say About This Role
The three-to-five-year experience threshold signals that NLMC wants someone past the learning curve — a midwife who can independently recognise danger signs and act on them without waiting for direction. The emphasis on emergency recognition and escalation suggests the facility values clinical judgement and quick decision-making over textbook knowledge alone. Underneath the clinical language, the profile being sought is someone who can balance hands-on care with family education and accurate documentation — a practitioner, not just a technician.
How to Approach This Application
Lead with concrete clinical exposure — the number of deliveries you have supported, the complications you have managed, and any experience with antenatal and postnatal follow-up. NLMC will likely prioritise evidence of safe practice and sound judgement in emergency situations, so describe specific instances where your assessment or escalation made a difference. Also signal your comfort with patient education and record-keeping, since private facilities tend to weigh both clinical skill and service quality.
Who This Role Suits
Best suited to midwives with solid hands-on maternity experience who want a stable full-time role in a private facility and can work independently with minimal supervision. Competition is likely moderate, and candidates who demonstrate both clinical competence and a respectful bedside manner will stand out.
