About This Role

This is a hands-on clinical post with a faith-based health center in Adama, where you would be the eye care anchor for a patient population that likely has limited access to specialist services. The breadth of conditions named in the listing signals a generalist ophthalmology workload rather than a narrow sub-specialty focus, so expect to move between clinic consultations, diagnostics, and surgical lists in the same week. Mission-driven facilities of this kind typically serve lower-income communities, which shapes both the case mix and the resource environment you would work in.

What the Requirements Say About This Role

The junior-level framing combined with a surgical scope tells you this employer is willing to take someone early in their career provided they can work with real independence — there is unlikely to be a senior ophthalmologist looking over your shoulder. The profile being sought is a clinically confident generalist who can handle both routine refraction and more complex presentations without extensive support infrastructure. The mention of developing plans and procedures hints that the eye care unit may still be building its systems, so comfort with shaping services, not just delivering them, matters here.

How to Approach This Application

Lead with concrete clinical exposure — the volume and variety of cases you have managed, diagnostics you can perform unaided, and any surgical experience, even if supervised. Because this is a Catholic Church health center, showing genuine motivation to serve underserved communities will carry weight alongside your credentials; a brief, sincere line about that goes further than generic language. Be specific about your license status and readiness to relocate to Adama, since employers outside Addis often screen out candidates they suspect will not commit to the location.

Best Fit

Who This Role Suits

Best suited to an early-career ophthalmologist who wants broad clinical and surgical exposure quickly and is comfortable practicing with autonomy in a resource-constrained, mission-oriented setting. Competition is likely moderate — the location outside Addis narrows the applicant pool, which works in your favor if you are genuinely willing to relocate.
